Mike, Recently, while browsing Facebook, I came across a thread extremely disturbing. It has me shaken in ways I can't really explain, which is where I'm hoping you will come in I'm looking for biblical truth regarding this situation. The Facebook thread was all about a seaweed based product called LIMU. From what I can gather, it is a marketing system (pyramid) in which one sells the product and advances within the company by getting others to sell the product underneath you. It sounds like a scam to me, but most blogs online state it is a valid company and product. My issue with this comes in that the biggest promoters in my Facebook network of friends, for this company and this product, LIMU, are head leaders in my hometown's biggest Baptist church. I feel like they are misrepresenting exactly what God's plan is for his people, and feel this marketing and all the Facebook exposure, is giving that church, and thus our GOD, a bad rap. It angers me to see people that claim to represent the gospel promoting financial self-advancement. See link. thelimucompany.com/I am asking for your help for two things: 1) Can you tell me what scripture says (if anything) about situations such as these? and 2) Can you give me some advice as to how to witness/approach those who are actually looking into committing to this? One friend of mine for many years is now actually debating quiting their job of 20 years to join the rest of his "fellow believers" in this adventure... Help and thank you

Well, I've spent some time reading about LIMU, and I'm afraid I really can't tell you a great deal. Much of what is said on the internet has to do with whether or not they are a pyramid scam. Many people allege they are, but supporters of the company deny it. I cannot speak authoritatively about it.
As far as how a Christian should approach such a company, I would say we need to do so as we would any business venture. For one thing, we are not to be yoked together with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 6:14). Obviously, Christians will have to work for and with non-Christians, but partnership is another story. If I were going to go into business or start up a business as a partner/franchisee/etc., I would be very careful about the people I'm working with. If a true partnership is not involved (i.e., sharing ownership), then I would have to be comfortable with the company's mission, values, and practices. If I personally had doubts about the integrity of the company, I would avoid it. I simply don't know enough about LIMU to make an informed decision.
When talking to friends or family about joining a company like LIMU, here are some questions I would ask:
Are you comfortable with this company's mission, values, and practices? Have you examined these things closely, and are they in line with Scripture? Is your investment in this company a good stewardship of God's resources that He has entrusted to you? Is your involvement in this company going to strain relationships with family or other Christians In other words, will they feel pressured to participate? Is your involvement it in any way going to hurt your Christian witness? Can you witness freely, and will non-Christians view you with suspicion? Does this company promote any kind of self-improvement apart from Jesus? Does the marketing for this company in any way imply that God's plan for all people is financial prosperity or physical health? Does this company encourage greed or generosity? Pride or humility? Lots of testimonials talk about "changed lives." As a Christian, are you comfortable with people looking to a company for something only Jesus can offer?
There are probably other questions, but those would arise in conversation with the interested parties. Bear in mind that there is nothing wrong with Christians being successful in business or being excited about their jobs. Much of this is about the heart and where the priorities are. This company might be legit, and people might be benefiting from its product and from involvement in the business. I'm sorry I don't have more solid answers.

Hi, my name is Chris and I (assumedly) am the friend she is talking about in the post. First I would like to say that I deeply appreciate her concerns and looking for scripture about the subject. It means a lot to me that she would care so much. Let me also clear up that I don't intend to quit my job for Limu, rather it's a means to an end. My goals and prayers are to be a worship leader full time and to get out of the job I'm in that has wreaked havic on my family and life. As to the company, it is a Christian based org which regularly calls for prayer for each other on the FB pages. They also opened their last big event in New Orleans with prayer, which I respect. The product is 100% natural (God's medicine) and has thousands of independent studies listed on the Nat'l Library of Medicine (www.pubmed.gov) Admittedly I have not put the effort into it that I should to succeed. "In all we do, work as if we are working for the Lord" is one verse that haunts me when I know I haven't commited as I should. I'm sure we can all relate to that! Haha! After weeks of prayer before making my decision to be a Limu promoter, I was certain God was leading me in that direction, as well as taking other steps to reach my goals of leading worship. Since my decision 3 months ago, I have been invited to a local church to lead worship 2 times now and have also been asked to lead a community wide worship event on Oct 13. The health of may family had drastically improved, and my attitude at work has improved as a result of seeing a "light at the end of the tunnel". God is good!! Please pray that God will continue to bless my decisions to improve my family's financial situation so that I can focus more time and resources into leading others in worship and bring lost souls to Him. Ultimately, THAT is why I am leading worship currently, why I want to lead in other locations, why I want to improve my career choice, and why I joined the Limu company. To God be all the glory. Thank you for your prayers! And thank you for teaching your congregation to care for their brothers and sisters in Christ!

Hello Chris, I have been just introduced to this and was skeptical at first. I am a massage therapist and a Christian. In my sessions I try to start all my sessions in prayer and believe in God's healing in all ways. A few of my clients invited me to one of these parties and sounds great, since I know my family, friends and clients could benefit. I seen most of the reviews and loved yours. I am truly seeking God's advice on this next step before I become a promoter or just a consumer, if at all. I would like to see if you still are doing Limu or not.
