Mike, recently at a conference you suggested that we set up a meeting with the Mayor and set up forums with our local law enforcement agencies. I have a meeting with the mayor and then the sheriff. What questions should I present to each?

Basically, when I set up meetings with community leaders like that, I'm trying to see how the church can contribute well to the community instead of just being a consumer. I ask questions such as the following: How can our church serve the community? What do you see as some of the problems in the community that the church might address/seek to remedy? How can our church be more involved in the community for its health and improvement? How might we minister to first responders?
I will even throw out some suggests. For example, perhaps the church mobilize its people for community service days (picking up trash, clearing out vacant lots or blighted properties, assisting low income or disabled homeowners with repairs). Maybe the church can host community meetings, such as a Night Out against Crime or a Neighborhood Watch meeting. I also make myself available for crisis intervention/response, such as with first responders.
I hope this helps.
