When I was a young child, the example to follow if you felt called to be a missionary was to move to the Congo and minister to people with dark skin and no clothes. Do you think that God sometimes calls people to minister to just one person?

First of all, missionaries are those who take the Gospel into places it is not--or at least where it is not prevalent. That can be in the Congo or the least-reached places in North America. All Christians, however, are called and commissioned to make disciples (Matthew 28:18-20). We are all to fund and support missionary efforts, and we are all to reach non-Christians and help other Christians grow and mature. While I don't really like to say something will never happen, I can say that I cannot imagine a scenario where a Christian is only called to minister to one person. One person might be the primary focus of a certain Christian (such as a spouse, a co-worker, or a roommate, etc.), but Gospel seeds can be planted in the grocery store, the neighborhood, the work place, and just about anywhere. Christians are also to be involved in the discipleship process through a local church. I would not want to think that I have church members who would say, "I can't be involved in ministering to others in our church or community because I'm only going to minister to one person." Both church and society would be in trouble if we all did that.
